Library to host community conversation for Legacy funding

[Archived - December 22, 2009]

In November 2008, Minnesota voters approved a constitutional amendment to dedicate funds for Minnesota's Outdoor Heritage, Clean Water, Parks and Trails, and our State’s Arts and Cultural Heritage. Included in the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund is a portion for special library programs and projects. The law states that these funds are intended “for regional programs and working with arts and cultural heritage partners.”

Southeastern Libraries Cooperating (SELCO), the southeast Minnesota regional library system based in Rochester, will be hosting a community conversation about the new Arts and Cultural Heritage Library Legacy funding at Zumbrota Public Library on December 3 from 4-6PM.  The purpose of the conversation will be to gather information about what types of community partnerships are taking place and to generate new ideas about initiating partnerships with local organizations and community members, and applying for the legacy funds.

Additional information and details about this program can be found by contacting SELCO at 1-800-992-5061 or by visiting the SELCO website at www.selco.info.

A Special Thanks to Our 2008 Donors
[Archived - April 30, 2009]

The library board of trustees wishes to thank all of our donors in 2008. The library is especially grateful to Walter Friese for a large donation that enabled the library to purchase two new computers for the public.

In total, the library received $6,603.76 in monetary donations and contributions. This amount was three times the amount we received in 2007, thanks to Mr. Friese's donation as well as grant money from the Zumbrota Community Trust. The library also receives smaller amounts on a regular basis, and the library would like to recognize all those who donated money in 2008.

It is through your generous support that we are able to support the library by providing computers for the public, maintaining children's programs, and purchasing additional materials.

More information on donations can be found on our donations page.

New Unattended Children Policy

[Archived - March 5, 2009]

The Zumbrota Public Library Board of Trustees recently voted to enact a new policy for unattended children in the library. The full text of the new policy is as follows:

A responsible adult or caregiver must accompany any child under the age of 10 years old while he/she is using the Library, for the child’s safety and comfort. A caregiver is defined as any individual 16 years of age or older who has the authority and responsibility to care for a child by the child’s parent or legal guardian. The Library does not act in loco parentis (in place of parents) and Library staff does not have the authority to take responsibility for unattended children. A child must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or caregiver at all times inside the building. If an unattended child calls attention to him/herself, Library staff will attempt to locate the parent/caregiver in the library and inform him/her of the policy. If the parent/caregiver is not present in the building or cannot be reached by telephone, the local Police Department may be asked to intervene. Parents, legal guardians, caregivers, and children who are in violation of this policy are subject to suspension of library privileges.

Christmas cookie bakers can bake up a batch of their favorites and show them off in an old fashioned cookie bake, swap and sale on Saturday, Dec. 6, at Zumbrota Public Library.

Between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., bakers may swap two dozen of their cookies for cookies baked by other bakers. They will set those cookies aside and take those cookies home. Each baker will have at least three dozen cookies remaining to sell to non-bakers.

Non-bakers will arrive at the library at 2 p.m. They will be charged a $1.50 entry fee. As they arrive, they will buy tickets, four for $1, or $2.50 for a dozen, to purchase Christmas cookies from the bakers. The cookie sale will continue until 3:00 p.m., or until cookies are gone. Plates and bags will be provided.

Bakers should bring copies of their recipes to be assembled into a book. Anyone can pay $2.50 to have a copy of the recipes mailed to them.
