Annual Parade hosted by the Zumbrota Rotary Club
The parade marched on the longest day of the year, 84 units, including 11 marching bands traveling from as far away as Willmar. Highlights of the floats that featured both the old and new were the 65-50 Club who puttered along in an old truck. The Shriners glided by in shiny primary colored convertibles followed by a Model-T. The cub scouts, girl scouts and boy scouts all rode in style as did the Dairy royalty and the king and queen from Zumbrota Health Care Services. The Zumbrota Volunteer Fire Department rolled through with their large red trucks, followed by Mazeppa, Oronoco, and Wanamingo making one feel secure in their presence. St. Paul Park participated, lip-synching a catchy tune and advertising their summer Heritage Festival. The vet clinic strolled and rolled with their furry friends. A soft serve in the back of the Dairy Queen’s costumed character “Soft Serve” made me want ice cream on this warm summer evening. Phenomenal Woman strutted a Paper Mache pumps and purse, casting not candy but jewelry to the crowd.
Float award winners were:
Sweepstakes was taken by Countryside for their flat bed, complete with fountain, garden and staff handing out plants.
Presidents Award went to the Grand Marshall float honoring World War II Vets, sponsored by the Honor Flight and the Rotary.
Most Original was awarded to Midwest Fab and Supply with a miniature car driven by two little boys tugging their coolers off to an afternoon of summer fun.
Thanks to the Rotary, the Zumbrota City staff and all participants for making it another successful parade.
The Rotary Club asked the veterans who participated in the April Honor Flight to be this year's Grand Marshals at the Covered Bridge Festival parade on Saturday, June 21.
