The summer reading program at the Zumbrota Public Library kicks off next week on Monday, June 3rd and runs until Friday, July 26th. The theme for infants through 6th grade is Dig into Reading. This year will also feature a teen reading program for 7th through 12th graders, with the theme Beneath the Surface. Readers age zero to eighteen are invited to sign up at the library and pick up their reading records to start logging all their summer reading time. Those who complete their reading logs and turn them in will earn a packet of certificates to be used for pizza, ice cream, and other treats at area businesses.
The program will also include a number of fun events at the library. Every Monday night at 6:30 and Tuesday morning at 10:30 there will be interactive story times that will include crafts, songs, and other activities. On Thursday, June 6 at 6:30 pm there will be a Summer Reading Program Kick-off Carnival, featuring fun carnival games and prizes. On Wednesday, June 19 at 1 pm there will be a special show put on by Magician Norm Barnhart. On Wednesday, July 17 at 3 pm the Reptile and Amphibian Discovery Zoo from Owatonna will be visiting with lots of awesome critters that kids can learn about and touch.
A special event is planned for the teen readers as well. Tuesday, July 9 from 6:30 to 9:00 pm will be an After-hours Teen Night in the library. Thirteen through eighteen year olds will have the library to themselves with music, snacks, button making, t-shirt dyeing, and henna tattoos.
Summer is a great time to do some reading, and the Zumbrota Public Library wants to reward you for it. Sign up, attend events, read books, and earn prizes!
