Streamed Live to the Zumbrota Public Library’s Facebook Page
Through Facebook Live, join Laura MacKenzie for a program of traditional Scottish music and song found in the Outlander novels and in the filmed series. Comment and ask questions during the stream and Laura will be there live to respond!
Laura MacKenzie has followed, studied and performed Scottish music for many years, and is herself of Scottish heritage. Aware of the broad interest in the Outlander series of novels by Diana Gabaldon, Laura enjoyed finding the specific traditional music references throughout the books. When the filmed series was released for television, she found an abundance of traditional song airs and tunes woven throughout the rich tapestry of the episode soundtracks. This music represents a genuine spectrum of familiar song airs, rare old dance tunes and enigmatic Gaelic songs from both the Highlands and the Lowlands of Scotland, all of historical significance and distinctive beauty. Laura’s July 20th program is a first-installment presentation of Scottish music gleaned from both the novels and the filmed series, all heard on a fascinating array of traditional wind-powered instruments and voice. Join us live for this virtual program to hear some favorites, learn about tradition and even join in on a Scottish song. Your comments and questions will be welcome!
